The X-Boil is a stove system built around one idea: an alcohol stove that's light without being wobbly. The stainless steel windscreen doubles as a pot stand and holds your pot securely on three hooks, while stainless steel's low heat conduction (around ten times less than aluminium) keeps more heat going into your food, not into the ground.

- Look elsewhere if: you need fast boils for a group, or regularly melt snow. Gas is quicker; if you do go alcohol in winter, choose a standard (STD) size.
Choosing your size
Pick the size that matches the diameter of the pot or mug you'll use. Your pot also needs at least 18mm between its base and the bottom edge of its handle.

Fuel and burn times
The included 30ml bottle exactly fills the burner. In good conditions, expect about 15ml of alcohol to boil 500ml of water and about 30ml for a full litre. Standard and ultralight burners use the same fuel; the standard is bigger and burns hotter, so it boils faster. The ultralight has plenty of power for summer trips.
